Here's what happens when you bring a strand in:

1. Inspection We examine the current strand — thread condition, knot integrity, clasp function, and the condition of the pearls themselves. We'll tell you what we find honestly before any work begins.
2. Cleaning Pearls are gently cleaned to remove built-up oils, cosmetics, and residue from the old string. This step alone often reveals the original luster of the pearl surface.
3. Restringing We restring using the material appropriate for your piece, threading each pearl onto fresh cord with proper, consistent tension throughout the strand.
4. Knotting For fine pearl necklaces, we knot between each pearl to prevent surface contact and protect against total loss if the strand breaks. This is the most time-consuming part of the process — and the most important.
5. Clasp Securing The clasp is reattached, inspected, tightened if needed, and polished. French wire or a Silk Guardian is added at the attachment point when appropriate.
